10-25-01--Dan Fuschak, Peachtree City, Georgia, USA, dfuschak@bellsouth.net, Comments: My family and I lived in Kimball in 1965. I was the logging engineer for Lane-Wells Company at that time. The base manager was Don Norden and the secretary was Lyla (spelling?--and I believe her last name was also Wells). Pete McCoy and Leroy Folken worked on the logging truck with me. Kimball was a very lucrative base to work from for all the oil field service companies in those days. We lived in Kimball for only about a year, but we really enjoyed the area. I'm originally from College Station, Texas, and have lived in many parts of the country since then...hope to stop in at Kimball again some day.

I will say that it was before the hospital was built. My aunt and uncle celebrated their 50th anniversary in Sidney two yrs ago and I was back in Kimball for the 2nd time since we moved away. I cannot remember much about it as a child, but the town seems to be a very nice place, and one I'd like to have lived in had it been my choice to do so. It seems to have a rather interesting history as well as a community looking toward the future.

3-3-01--Rod and Laura (Griffith) Richter (65,67), Whidbey Island, WA, USA, rlrjr@homegarden.com, Comments: Hello Kimball and friends. We enjoy reading the guestbook and other items from the Observer, etc. Have touched base with several friends. We had some shakin' going on out here this past week. I was at my desk when I heard popping and cracking (thought the house was settling) then the shaking, rolling and sounds of a runaway truck. Ran outside and watched the trees sway back and forth quite a bit. Lasted for more than 30 seconds, a long time in earthquake terms, I guess. Laura was at a friend's house and could actually see the ground rolling and power poles swaying. Did some structural damage to their house (from Sidney, NE by the way). They were closer to the water than I was.

In a junior high school a class was actually watching a video on earthquakes when it started. Some of the kids first wondered how the teachers had created the special effects. They thought the teachers were "really cool" to go to the trouble.

Laura's sisters (Dianne and Sharlotte) still live in Grand Junction, CO.

Let us know how things are going in Kimball. We need more entries in the guestbook.

Have a great day! Rod and Laura
